Founded in 1988, NAMI of Marion County incorporated as an affiliate of NAMI in 1998, serving and representing Ocala and communities in Marion County, FL.
NAMI offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness. Their Mission is "...to improving the quality of life for people with mental illness and their families through support, education, and advocacy." Their Vision is "In our envisioned future mental illness will no longer thwart a person’s fulfillment of his or her potential. With early pinpoint diagnoses, interventions, and targeted medications and services there is no pervasive disability. Ultimately, we envision a day when prevention or a cure is found."

Advocate at the county, state, and national levels for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education, and employment for people with mental illness.

The B4Stage4 Philosophy
Much of MHA’s work is guided by its Before Stage 4 (B4Stage4) philosophy – that mental health conditions should be treated long before they reach the most critical points in the disease process. When we think about diseases like cancer or heart disease, we don’t wait years to treat them. We start before Stage 4—we begin with prevention, identify symptoms, and develop a plan of action to stop and hopefully reverse the progression of the disease. Like other diseases, it is critical to address symptoms early and plan an appropriate course of action on a path towards overall health.
